Why does my trip route look inaccurate or show the wrong path?

If a trip shows up in the Drive app but the route doesn't look right, the fix depends on how wrong it is. Here's how to tell the difference and what to do about each.

First, figure out which kind of "inaccurate" you're seeing

Off in certain spots, accurate elsewhere This is by far the most common pattern, and it's almost always signal-related — not a bug. GPS accuracy naturally dips in:

  • Hilly or mountainous areas
  • Dense urban areas with tall buildings
  • Tunnels, underground parking, or parking garages
  • Areas with heavy tree cover

The route will "jump" or smooth out oddly through these stretches, then track normally again once signal improves. No action needed on your end — this is expected GPS behavior, not a setting you can fix.

Completely wrong for the entire trip This is much less common and isn't explained by signal alone. If the whole route looks unrelated to the actual trip taken, it's worth flagging to our support team rather than troubleshooting yourself.

Before contacting support, double-check this

Even for route accuracy, it's worth confirming location permission is set to Always (not "While Using the App"). Inconsistent permission settings can cause the app to lose tracking mid-trip, which shows up as a broken or partial route.

To check: Settings → Apps → SmartWheels Drive → Permissions → Location → Always (steps vary slightly between iPhone and Android).

If the route is still way off

  • The date and time of the affected trip
  • A screenshot of the trip route in the app
