GPS Tracker Showing Offline

Why does a tracker go offline?

Going offline briefly is normal. Your tracker uses 4G cellular connectivity, and short interruptions can happen. In most cases, it comes back online on its own.

However, the tracker will also show as offline if:

  • It's in a location with poor or no cellular signal (underground parking, tunnels, remote areas). It will reconnect automatically once it's back in coverage.
  • The battery has died.
  • There is a temporary issue on our end (server outage or outdated firmware/app).

Step-by-step: What to do when your tracker is offline

Work through these steps in order. Check the app after each step to see if the tracker comes back online.

Step 1 — Check connectivity and placement

If the tracker just went offline, wait at least 1 hour. Temporary network hiccups resolve on their own.

If the tracker is in a low-signal area (basement, underground carpark, tunnel, rural area), move the vehicle to an open area and wait a few minutes for it to reconnect.

Placement also affects signal quality even in good coverage areas. Avoid placing the tracker deep inside a metal chassis or under multiple layers of material, as this blocks both GPS and cellular signals. Test placing it in a more exposed position. Once you confirm it works, find a spot that balances concealment with signal performance.

➡ Still offline after waiting and repositioning? Move to Step 2.

Step 2 — Read the LED indicators

Before going further, check the LED lights on your tracker — they tell you exactly what's happening.

Blue light indicatorsBattery level

If the red light is constantly blinking and never goes solid, the device is actively struggling to find a signal. Use this information to guide the next steps.

➡ Move to Step 3.

Step 3 — Check the battery

A dead battery is one of the most common reasons for an offline status.

  • Open the app — it shows the battery percentage. Check it regularly and charge the device before it runs out.
  • When the battery reaches 0%, the device shuts down and you will receive a low battery alert. Note that the app's battery level card will not update at this point — instead, the tracker will simply appear as offline.
  • If you missed the alert and the battery is now dead, the tracker will show as offline in the app.
  • You can also check the battery indicator on the device.

What to do: Plug the tracker in via USB cable and charge it for at least a few hours.

Step 4 — Restart the tracker and app

A simple reboot often clears temporary glitches.

What to do:

  1. Open the SIM slot, turn the tracker off, wait 1 minute, then turn it back on.
  2. Close the app on your phone and reopen it. If issues persist, try reinstalling the app.

➡ Done? Move to Step 5.

Step 5 — Long Reset

If a simple reboot doesn't work, try the long reset.
  1. Press and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds.
  2. Then wait for 10 minutes.
  3. Then open the SIM slot, turn the tracker off, wait 1 minute, then turn it back on.
  4. Close the app on your phone and reopen it.
Step 5 — Check the SIM card

A loose SIM card can break the cellular connection.

What to do: Remove the SIM card and reinsert it firmly to ensure a proper connection.

➡ Still offline? See below.

Still offline after all of the above?

This could be due to a temporary server outage on our end, or the app/firmware being out of date.

Contact our support team or read the Prolonged Offline Issues article if your tracker has been offline for many hours a day or many consecutive days. <Link: Prolonged Offline Issues>

Key things to remember:

  • Brief offline periods are normal — always wait at least an hour first.
  • Keep your tracker charged; the app will warn you when battery is low.
  • Placement matters — avoid burying it in signal-blocking locations.
